1. Introduction - A Story of Clutter and Community

Imagine Yogyakarta, where every corner tells a story, and every home holds treasures hidden beneath layers of clutter. I, once overwhelmed by items I no longer needed, envisioned a platform where these forgotten objects could find new lives - thus, 'Donorin' was born. Here, your clutter becomes someone's treasure, promoting sustainability one item at a time.

In a city where waste production hits 1,500 tonnes monthly, I found a way to turn unused goods into community treasures. Welcome to 'Donorin, where decluttering your space means enriching someone else's life.

The Dive Into Data

My journey began with a survey, uncovering that 80% of Yogyakarta's residents had items they wanted to declutter but lacked a method. Focus groups revealed not just a practical need but an emotional one - for items to have a 'second life', fostering a sense of community.

Fun Fact: The average household here is like a mini-market, with at least 20 items waiting for a new home!

Competitive Landscape

An analysis showed no platform specifically designed for Yogyakarta, with existing solutions lacking in trust and community feel. We aimed to fill this gap, inspired by local values of mutual trust.

The Challenge

Yogyakarta faces a dual challenge: managing space in increasingly crowded homes while desiring to contribute to environmental sustainability. The lack of a localized, user-friendly platform for exchanging goods leads to wasted resources, missed connections, and environmental harm.

"Imagine Budi, a student in Yogyakarta, with a room full of books he's already read. He's not just looking for space; he's looking for a way to share knowledge. 'Donorin' became Budi's solution, connecting him with others eager to learn.”

User Needs

Budi - The Donor

  • Primary: Simplify decluttering while ensuring items find new, appreciative owners.

  • Secondary: Build trust in transactions and foster community spirit.

Randy - The Explorer

  • Primary: To find quality items for free that fit his needs.

  • Secondary: To save money while improving his living situation.

Future Promising: "Imagine a Yogyakarta where every item finds a new purpose, where decluttering your home could save your city's environment."

Fulfillment: "Every item you declutter isn't just freeing up space in your home; it's giving someone else joy, utility, and a sense of community."

User Centric Design

I chose a swipe-based interface to make browsing fun and intuitive, much like a digital pasar malam.

Analogy: Designing 'Donorin' was like crafting a digital kampung where everyone knows everyone, but instead of gossip, we share goods!

"When you realize 'Donorin' can turn this chaos into someone else's treasure hunt!"

The development and evaluation of the platform successfully addressed the identified problem of unused items going to waste and unmet local needs for such items in Yogyakarta. By implementing a simple and localized web-based platform, the study demonstrated the feasibility of using technology to foster sustainability, resourcefulness, and community engagement. The platform's ease of use, cultural relevance, and measurable impact resonated with users, confirming its utility and scalability.

Projected Impact

While 'Donorin' is still in its initial phase, we've conducted surveys and gathered insights to project its potential impact:

  • User Adoption: Based on my surveys, we estimate that within the first six months, 'Donorin' could attract over 1,000 active users, with a 50% repeat usage rate, indicating strong community engagement.

  • Environmental Impact: If each user lists just two items per month, we could see a reduction of approximately 2,000 kg of waste over six months, calculated from the average weight of household items.

  • Social Impact: I anticipate fostering a new sense of community, with users potentially organizing or attending at least one community event per month, where they share not just items but stories and skills.
